Funny reading the bio that Ryan has broken up with the internet and his computer and yet still managed to write a comment on the New Raleigh website about his book today. I guess he could have used his Blackberry or whatever - does that not count? Perhaps googling “Ryan Adams” to check if he’s being mentioned on the web doesn’t count either…lol…Come clean with us Ryan.

well,
i worked very very hard on my new book of prose. three years exactly, three years during the wonderful time, the eye-opening and heartwarming time I have experienced since I started helping myself try and be a litte more realistic about my goals, my life, and what does and DOES NOT work for me.
my relationship to the press and media by the way is not a TWO WAY STREET-
i do not get up and court the press. i suppose i work my ass off and i continue to KEEP THE FAITH in making art, sharing idea’s and yes, even attempting to become a better person in spite of what I know now is a rather sometimes bitter, always awkward public who nameless and faceless will trash me no matter what my efforts.
still,
what is so wrong for me to work hard to realize my dreams and make art- ZERO
and
as a human being on earth should i also be entitled to look for a real and long standing love that nurtures me with someone who feels i also support and nurture them-

onward and into new days with bright lovely things to discover, and a mindful eye on those who also need to know,
‘despite so much negativity in the world,

I never believe it when someone says they are leaving the internet behind, though maybe in their heart of hearts they really want to. It can’t be done.

You know, this guy really takes criticism way too much to heart. Being a public person/celebrity, he really shouldn’t. He should be thicker-skinned. He hints at ignoring the nay-sayers, but it is evident his detractors still bother him. Who cares what some idiots think about his work, his music or art? They don’t have to buy it. It is their loss. It’s like I like to say…DON’T LET THE BASTARDS GET YOU DOWN!

Can I ask a stupid question? Who is stopping him? Who is he railing against? We are all entitled to look for a real and long standing love that nurtures us with someone who feels we suport and nurture them back. What is he talking about? This is like being angry at the sky for being blue. I don’t get it anymore.

As I said in my previous post: this interweb, disjointed tumblr dialogue interests me, even when I disagree.

This selection posted by thewayoftheworld seems similar to the voice that has come through in some of Werewolph’s posts.

Think about Bob Dylan. Think about “The Pilgrim: Chapter 33” by Kris Kristofferson. We do not know if what is typed by Ryan Adams flows from him in seriousness or if (or when) there are tongues in cheeks. Just as everybody has the personal freedom to type what they wish about Ryan Adams or other subjects (although there are many limitations on freedom of speech in the U.S.A…. something that I might examine in a future post when I allot more to time), he has the freedom to type or not type what he wishes. Maybe he does feel under attack. Maybe these attacks often fuel his art. We all find muses in unique forms… not all of our muses sing to us. Maybe when Ryan Adams types such things they bring about catharsis and help him on his life’s journey. Regardless, I find Ryan’s past posts interesting, just as I find other’s reactions to be interesting.

Speaking of the internet:

I now boycott the internet for at least the next 19 hours.

Well, I listened to the Jenny Lewis album, Acid Tongue. And as I feared, I didn’t really like it. I thought the album did a great job of sucking the life out of her. There are some good moments, particularly the title track. That song is beautiful, and she killed it live.

But so as to prove that I was not crazy for liking her so much live, I downloaded a bootleg of a show on Sept 12th and from what I have heard so far it is pretty fucking awesome. She is much better live, with a change to show off that great voice. And the band sounds a million times better on the bootleg, which is a good audience recording. Try this link to download.

I don’t understand why you guys want him to come back and the second he does, you all attack him for being here.

Oh and book promoting is hardly blogging. But what do I know.

I absolutely second that. It’s hard enough to live your life under a microscope without having to worry that everything you say will be endlessly criticized. Ryan has a right, just like the rest of us to change his mind. If he decides he wants to blog, or write on message boards, etc, then that certainly is his perogative. Who are we to criticize that. I welcome his creative energy and will take him on the internet however we can get him.

If you looked at the blog it’s not dra but one of his bandmates. And it drives me absolutely over the top when all people wish to do is crictize others. What have you guys done to make your mark on the world? Because at the end of the day I seriously doubt anyone will care what a tiny nothing has to say about someone who’s actually trying to get out there and do something. Why don’t you do anything besides sitting around and BITCH!

To chime in on the cardinology blog and whether Ryan Adams is using the internet…

1) I was excited to see Cardinology on Tumblr back in the saddle again. Slyder often posted artistic and often witty posts. I look forward to peeking into what it’s like to be in an American band: The Cardinals. Brad may show us some more knives. Spacewolf may share his minimalist statements. Neal Casal may display some of his photographs. Hell, we might even get some peeks into some of the other hard-working individuals associated with The Cardinals and their music and tour. I would love to see posts from tourbus driver (if the band members don’t drive themselves), roadies, tour manager, etc. We are very fortunate to have posts, of any variety, from the band.

2) I really do not care if Ryan Adams, Werewolph, Sad Dracula, etc. posts other items on the internet and does not post on tumblr blog. That is his choice. I’d love for him to post more posts, because I was often inspired and entertained by his personal posts. If he never blogs again, I still celebrate the moments and brief snapshots from his biography. He is a very interesting mind. Maybe he is just taking a break from blogging. Maybe he is just taking a break from the internet. He could write a review, handwrite and review, and somebody else could take care of the electronic submission of the material. It doesn’t really matter. What he does electronically, or not, is, ultimately, his choice. I also don’t spite acheron for their reflections. We all have freedom of speech. If what somebody says affects Ryan Adam’s blogging or not blogging, then that is part of life. If Ryan Adams blogs again, he may blog as an completely anonymous person, somebody entirely unattached to his name, fame, and art. Perhaps he blogs or reblogs in such a form now.

3) All of The Cardinals interest me.

4) I enjoy reading the dialogue of Cardinals fans and non-fans as well. Interaction is difficult and of a semi-disjointed form on tumblr, but I do find some enjoyment in following the threads of dialogue through reblogs and through going to people’s personal blog pages.

5) Acheron… that’s something from Dante’s Inferno. My memory is wretched.

6) The New Raliegh website may not include a comment written by Ryan Adams.

7) Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band and Jenny Lewis and Her Band kicked major ass in Nashville last night.

8) When I sang karaoke the last two times, I told them that my name was Slyder (because there are too many Jo or Joe characters who sing karaoke) and people seemed perplexed as to what in the Hell Slyder might mean… just ask thepilgrim-chapter32.

9) Danzig III: How The Gods Kill sounds great right now.

10) I will blog tomorrow about the concert last night.

11) I have a request. I can not find the name of the drummer for Jenny Lewis and Her Band. I think that her name may be Barbara. Can anybody help me out here? Anyway, the drummer for Jenny Lewis and Her Band really seems to live fully in the moment and treasure life… she was a delight to watch.

Wow! I dug this post the most. For starters, I re-iterate how excited I am about Cardinology in general, and that DRA you have made those fellas your home. Very nice and wonderful indeed. Also, i’m excited for the future too..new rekkid especially. And it takes a community to raise a child, so the chile being a new Cards record, and the community is obviously all the shout outs you’ve listed.

hey,

because i love being a CARDINAL and because, of of respect of everyone we worked with in the last few years here, I just want to say thank you.

That boxed set- man, it just wasn’t right for me right now. I am SO invested in being in the CARDINALS. and I just want to say this right now, so people understand, the hardcore CARDINALS fans out there,

I write music now to play with my 4 best pals. I just consider myself a little idea machine for that band, and I am JUST A MEMBER OF THAT BAND no matter how a record is titled- really. And I’ll get back to making solo records here eventually. The next one is going to (if it is ever made) be a reverse HEARTBREAKER. in fact, i am going to have that word blocked out on my arm and make a record to tell someone how much I love them. I think that might be the most badass solo thing ever.

MEANWHILE, trust me, when you get yr new record, it’s full of 100 percent democracy- tunes chosen by the band, arrangements we all worked on, we trusted our AWESOME beyond belief management to help us choose everything from tracks to working hard at making a cover that was truly representational of, well, the CARDINALS taking flight.

because if i had it my way, there would be no need for my name to belong before that wonderful band, and when we play any tune I wrote it becomes a VERSION, even for me.

this saved my musical soul and my musical heart. and it did some good work for me on the inside too.

The Electric Rose Logo is still our logo by the way. the Cardinal Peace Arms was a way of expressing what this record meant to us all (speaking if I may on behalf of the guy’s) as I think that learning curve took effect.

And now we are a band. for real and in heart and mind.

and our next steps, they will be those big one’s i think. i can see us shacked up someplace next year making songs directly from riffs, trading verses-

and i took as much direction as I could from Neal on this record. We really figured out our flow vocally and guitar wise. I am so beyond in love with his voice and playing that my word, you know, when he and I would exchange notes about the OASIS shows, learning a toughness and a quickness (bad-brains ref- ed) from playing with them, i think we kind of knew we entered finally into our graduate year here at CARDINAL ROCK HIGH.

and Tom Schick, and Noah- they brought it all home for us with bossman and crew looking right down over us.

It feels great right now in the nest and I tell you what,

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE RIGHT NOW that I CAN’T FIND MY SHADES

or something like that.

P.S. Big Shout out to OUR AMAZING ROAD TEAM And our eye in the sky (J.C at the H.Q.)- the work and over-sight into our new stage design is gonna blow minds and be fun as hell.

We might even be half as afraid as last time to open for those giant amazing bad-asses OASIS come the winter.

Excellent to read about Cardinals Democracy. I look forward to hearing some of that democracy live (and I also look forward to hearing some Chinese Democracy when Guns N’ Roses have their Leaves of Grass ready for the patient masses). Tremendous peace and happiness flows from this post. “Peaceful Valley” connected with me at work today, but that song really spoke to me the loudest one time when it came about during a shuffle on a break during a seven mile walk, as I sat beside a pond full of floating ducks and found catharsis through tears and communion with those dead in human form. Today, “Silver Bullets” also really spoke to me. Covering the heartbreaker tattoo is interesting. I look at my tattoos (I have over 25) as part of biography and there is considerable writing in my tattoo biography. I have only covered one tattoo, and it was a pentagram, which I covered with a black cat. I am so over the evil phase of my life. My life focuses on mindfulness, poetry, family, and love now. Thank you for this communication.
